After publishing the Educational Standards in Geography for the Intermediate School Certificate the question appears how to test them. In this explorative study a test was created that tries to check the possession the competences of knowing and use of spatialrasters and orientation systems at the end of Sekundarstufe I. The test was conducted at a german gymnasium and evaluated with quantitative, statistical methods. The results show which rasters and systems are possessed in connection to the scale,topic link, the ability of knowing or using. Also it was possible to say wether there are differneces in gender or time interval between learing the raster and the test. It was shown that more research in this field has to be done.
