|a The thesis questions, if neuronal activity, evoked by activating the primary somatosensory afferences of the cerebral rat cortex, directly spreads from the primary somatosensory cortex to the lateral adjacent secondary somatosensory and primary motory cortex. Experimental methods used to measure neuronal activity were Voltage Sensitive Dys and field potentials. Those were evoked by single, electrical stimuli. In each experiment, lateral spread of neuronal activity could be registered, mainly in the infragranular cortical regions but also in supragranular cortical layers of the regions mentionend above. A tendency goes towards the fact that, the greater the distance to the stimulational electrode, the lower the neuronal activity detected. Further, the lateral spread of membrane potential doesn’t differ a lot between primary motory and secondary somatosensory cortical regions. Obviously, the Sensory System and the Motory System define a close coupling already on the level of the cerebral cortex.
